Market Recap
Today the Dow gained 56 points, the Nasdaq was up 15 points, and the S&P gained 5 points. There are many charts setting up nicely, and we have plenty to show you in the chart section tonight.
The Trading Zone
If Wall Street was a TV Show, it would have to have a theme similar to that old Rod Sterling classic "The Twilight Zone". That theme music is what every dumboberry new to the stock market should hear instead of the “Windows jingle” when they turn on their computers each day, getting ready to step into the fire to play with the wolves. That theme would remind them of what they are up against and heed caution before casting their cash out in the waters as bait for the sharks to come and take away. Imagine Rod Sterling's voice as he speaks with the “Twilight Zone” music in the back ground. Here is the theme: "You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of liars and cheats but of thieves. A journey into a deceitful land of endless trickery. There's the trap up ahead, your next stop, the 'Trading Zone' "
Or you could even re-word the last sentence to read, "There's the 'Trading Zone' up ahead, your next stop, the Poor House". Either way, if you get trapped in this zone unprepared, it can be financial suicide and a one way ticket to purgatory on earth.
2005: A Stock Odyssey
Webster's definition of the word Odyssey is “any extended wondering or journey”. I think that describes perfectly what we have had in the 2005 stock market. It was a wondering, aimless and mostly frustrating journey that went absolutely nowhere. The buy and hold S&P Index investor had a total gain of 4% this year, but I would bet the majority of the investing public lost money even though the markets were flat to slightly up as most investors struggled along only to find their money lost in some big black hole.
2006 is around the corner and we will soon take another journey through the timeless odyssey we know only as Wall Street. The mystery of this famous arena will continue to baffle those who come unprepared. For those who come unprepared, may they listen to the above theme over and over until they realize what they are up against and take action to avoid the traps of the “Trading Zone”. We hope that in 2005, we have better prepared you for your journey into the stock market of 2006. Merry Christmas everyone, our next update will be Monday evening. Enjoy your holiday.
Holiday greetings from STHQ
From all of us at STHQ, we hope you all have a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends. We would like to wish all our members a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May 2006 be a great year for you and your loved ones. Please remember those that are less fortunate; if you can, please support your local Toys for Tot's organization so that a child or two can have a gift under the tree this year. They will not know who gave it to them but I will guarantee that their face will light up when they open their gift. Just knowing that makes it worth giving. God bless all of you and your loved ones.
