Market Recap
The markets opened to a volatile start after the holiday long weekend. Futures were up solidly before the open and as the opening bell rang, buyers poured in and sent stocks higher. That buying lasted all of 30 minutes before sellers took control and the markets took it on the chin for the rest of the morning. Then, just before noon, buying hit the tape and it was steady upward movement for most of the afternoon. Most of the morning loses were recovered until a last wave of late day selling came in a left the Dow with a -46 point loss by the closing bell. The S&P lost 4 points, and the NASDAQ shook off the losses and managed to close up +4 points. Overall, not a bad day considering the negative Wal-Mart news that kicked off the selling this morning. I still believe the bull has arrived on Wall Street and is in our midst right now.
Games People Play
Recently we spoke about the game Halo2 and Microsoft. At the time, Microsoft had just broken through a major resistance level at $29 and moved up over $30 shortly thereafter. It has since gone X-dividend and the price has been dropped by the $3 cash handed out to investors of record. One of the driving factors behind the move over $29 was certainly the pending dividend, but the release of Halo2 had a lot to do with the stock price advance as well. Halo2, the hugely anticipated video game for the Xbox, had sales numbers that looked like a movie premiere weekend. Fortunately, we identified the potential in a recent commentary and have been watching events closely since. It may be time to turn up the heat.

As anticipated, there will be a lot of video games under the Christmas tree this year. The industry is predicting record sales this holiday season. This sector is worth a combined $10 billion, so it is definitely a growing sector. The gaming sector is made up of the huge giants such as Microsoft and its Xbox, Sony and its Playstation, and Nintendo and its Game Cube, but there are many companies behind the scenes such as software development firms and publishers for these games. This is where the real money will be made this holiday season. When someone buys a game for their system, the publisher gets a good chunk of the profits. If you are one of the nearly 50% of Americans planning on giving the gift of gaming this year, take a close look at the packaging and notice who the publisher of the game is, then take an even closer look at the stock chart of that company.
Analysts, Late to the Party Again!
Also mentioned in a previous commentary are some hot items for this year like the Ipod from Apple, Treo from Palmone, and RIMM's Blackberry. Many analysts have recently upgraded AAPL shares lately. We are ahead of the analysts again with AAPL highlighted in this commentary well before any of these upgrades were announced. There have been $100.00 price targets placed on AAPL. The stock is now above its 2000 high again. Now that it has come all the way up from $16 in less than a year and made a new all time high, the analysts are pumping up the stock. Nice of them to let us know now after it has advanced over 400% isn't it? They have to sell to someone, and after the sales figures from the Christmas holiday are released, it will probably be a sell the news scenario.
Sales should slow down after Christmas and that is when AAPL should start selling off. That is only one month away and the analyst upgrade stocks when the end of the run is getting near. These upgrades coincide with the calendar and looks like another repeat of our theory will come true again. We may not want to fall prey to the AAPL run-up but there is some good news here. We can play stocks that may run in sympathy with AAPL and its Ipod run. Some of those names are ROXI, ADBL, and MBAY. We already have a position in ROXI, and MBAY is in the same business as ADBL. ADBL has a contract with AAPL and Ipod. This is why ADBL has run up so much. MBAY maybe the hidden gem in all this because it is in the same business as ADBL and may move up in sympathy. I like its chances and I have added it to the bulletin tonight.
Toys for Tots
While Christmas shopping, don't forget about the children who are less fortunate. As I shop, I like to pick up a few extra items and drop them off at the nearest Toy's for Tots booth. Many children do not get a gift under the tree, and every child should have a gift to open on Christmas. We can make the difference for a few children this season.
